Grant Me Justice’s Uplift Journaling Workshop: A Journey of Healing Through Writing

On September 20-21, Grant Me Justice hosted a transformative Uplift Journaling Workshop at the Lifehouse, located at 745 N. President St. This special event was facilitated by Paul Rankin, an accomplished author and writing instructor, who guided participants through the powerful process of journaling as a tool for healing.

A Warm Introduction

The workshop kicked off on Friday evening with an introduction to the art of journaling. We enjoyed pizza from Sal and Mookie's while Paul shared his insights on how writing can serve as a therapeutic outlet helping individuals process their emotions and experiences and as an important tool to telling powerful stories, The evening set a welcoming tone, allowing participants to get comfortable and prepare for the deeper work ahead.

Diving Deep on Saturday

Saturday was dedicated to diving into the heart of journaling. Families of homicide victims gathered to explore the importance of writing freely and without judgment. Paul encouraged everyone to let their thoughts flow onto the page, emphasizing that there are no rules in journaling—only the freedom to express oneself.

The Power of Writing Freely

Throughout the day, participants engaged in various writing exercises designed to unlock their creativity and provide a safe space for emotional expression. The act of putting pen to paper allowed many to confront and articulate their feelings in ways they hadn’t before. It was a powerful reminder of how writing can be a form of self-care and a step towards healing.

Building a Supportive Community

The workshop also fostered a sense of community among the participants. Sharing their writings and experiences helped build connections and support networks, reinforcing the idea that they are not alone in their journey. The Lifehouse provided a serene and supportive environment, perfect for this kind of introspective work.

Looking Ahead

Grant Me Justice is committed to offering resources and events that support the healing process for families affected by homicide. The success of the Uplift Journaling Workshop highlights the importance of creative outlets like writing in coping with grief and trauma.

A heartfelt thank you to Paul for his guidance and to his wife Aimee for the delicious Saturday morning fruit and baked goods, and especially to all the participants who bravely shared their stories. We look forward to hosting more workshops that empower and uplift our community.
